Making of log house starts with picking the right logs and not every log is good for that. The most important factor is direction of spiral grain. Every trunk has fibres, which are growing a bit in spiral direction. Some are growing in left and others in right direction. Lefties tend to twist more during drying and therefore are allowed to be used just in the bottom part of the wall.
At green logs it is often hard to detect grain direction, because no drying cracks has appeared already. To precisely detect grain direction, we developed ergonomic and foldable BrLog Grain Scriber, which should not be missed at any pocket on serious log construction site.
